About us
Welcome to our café in Nailsworth, where we've been serving the community for 15 wonderful years! Founded and run by Caroline Saturley and her amazing team, we pride ourselves on creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere and serving delicious, locally sourced food and beverages. Whether you’re here for a cozy breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or just a great cup of coffee, we can’t wait to share our passion for good food and wholesome company with you. We are pet friendly and have a large children's playroom at the back of the cafe.

How we got here
Founded and run by Caroline Saturley, who made the leap from midwifery to hospitality nearly 2 decades ago, The Canteen is the product of a lifelong passion for good food and community. Before settling in Nailsworth, Caroline grew up in Cyprus, where she fell in love with the fresh, lively flavours of Mediterranean cooking, a love that clearly shines through in her vibrant menus today.
As well as founding The Canteen, Caroline’s creativity and drive have helped shape other venues in Nailsworth’s local food scene. She brought new life to The Hog at Horsley, transforming an empty building into a thriving village hub that continues to flourish under new ownership. She also launched The Vault (now Waterloo House), turning the old HSBC bank into a stylish wine and tapas bar, a project that perfectly combined her passion for hospitality with her flair for interior design, a signature touch you’ll also notice throughout The Canteen.
Fast forward to 2024, when Caroline teamed up with Pennie, now The Canteen’s General Manager. The partnership has allowed Caroline to focus more on the food and family life, while creating a true dream team, one that brings warmth and a welcoming buzz every time you walk through the door.
